Kansas Legislative Internship Program
Basehor-Linwood senior Lane Lamping
|
2025 Session Intern Basehor-Linwood HS senior Lane Lamping spent much of his 2025 spring attending the Kansas House of Representatives as part of the school’s Innovation Academy study program. During his internship he participated in monitoring committee meetings, researching bills, and attending House sessions.
During school visits by Linwood Elementary 4th grade students, Lane took the lead in escorting students throughout the capital. The visit by the students is an annual event for Linwood Elementary students. Lamping also prepared bill briefs and aided in helping legislation to be passed changing how optometrists can perform new procedures in their office. This legislation was brought to the House through work with the Holland Eye Clinic in Basehor. Lane’s committee bill brief was used to prepare House legislators for debate on the floor, which passed favorably on to the Senate. The highlight of Lane’s internship came when his Bobcat robotics team was honored by the entire House of Representatives in a resolution for the squad’s 2025 Kansas State Robotics Championship. The team was joined by their coach Molly Gomes. He is the 4th intern from the 38th District to complete an internship for Rep. Johnson. |
